It sounds unusual, but there has been a small earthquake registering 2.6 in the state of New York. Near the base of Lyon Mountain. Maybe Lyon Mountain used to be an active volcano in some far distant past. Or is Lyon Mountain the site of some fracking activity?
Incidentally, this is the 105-year anniversary of the Great 1906 Quake.
3.8 is a fair sized Earthquake. It happened in a small cluster of 3 quakes in San Francisco. Across the state, another 3.0 happened simultaneously. They say they felt it, but no damage was reported.
***The quake hit at 2:57 p.m. and was centered about 2 miles southeast of Pacifica, at a depth of 8 1/2 miles, said Paul Laustsen, a public affairs specialist for the agency. There were no immediate reports of damage.
"This is what we consider a weak to light amount of shaking," he said. "We wouldn't normally expect damage from this type of quake."
The earthquake type - strike-slip, meaning two plates move past each other - is "very characteristic" of the San Andreas Fault that runs through the Peninsula, Laustsen said.***

A new, STRONG earthquake (Reported as 7.1) has hit Japan, exactly one month after the historic, tsunami causing off-shore quake of March 2011. The quake hit near the already devastated area of Fukushima. New damage is still being investigated.
The Yellowstone Super volcano area has had another 4.1 earthquake. That makes two 4.1's in less then a week. also, a growing number of Pacific coast earthquakes are creeping farther inland, as far as Nevada and Utah. It gives me a bit of concern. It just seems like more and more quakes everyday. We are having strong geomagnetic storms too. Interesting times!
Searching the new imagery available in Google Earth, of the post earthquake/tsunami Japan, I've found the astonishing sight of a shipping port which has been destroyed. Literally hundreds of huge shipping containers just tossed around and piled up by the waters. It's quite a dramatic sight.
First, (while I organize) here is a screen capture of a pair of 5.1 and other quakes in the cluster which have just occurred.
Moving around the ring of fire, we see Alaska is shaking pretty good, with what seems like alot of little earthquakes. Many from this morning.
On down to Northren California. It looks like an Earthquake hit the Pacific Cost highway. You can still see the 4.1 south of yellow stone in the back ground.
There was a cluster, I zoomed down to. Thinking it could be fracture drilling ops, and sure enough, some kind of massively vented, pipeline facility is there. Looking around I realized the entire mountain region was an energy company installation. All the peaks are pipelined together in a huge 15 mile formation of remote mountain terrain. Earthquakes certainly caused by the unidentified, invasive, energy drilling company. There are no earthquakes where there are no machinery installations.. And there's as many of those as there are yellow dots.
Moving down to Southren California, there are more, recent clusters. Possibly similar insane practices of fracking a fault line! But I have not investigated yet. The point is, they happened in the same hour as the other new Quakes across the planet.
Monitoring the sun and earth visualization services, I've noticed, within the hour, Northern Japan has had another, land based 5.1 Earthquake. ALSO, yesterday, there were a series of 4 earthquakes, all over 6.0, and in alignment to each other.
At the same time, Wyoming has had a 4.1 Earthquake just south of Yellowstone park.
3 weeks after (or into) the worst disaster the world has witnessed, the Japan Earthquake and tsunami, Google Earth imagery has now been updated.

BEIJING, March 25 (Xinhuanet) -- A magnitude-7 earthquake has struck northeastern Myanmar on Thursday night. The tremor shook buildings as far away as Bangkok, some 800 kilometers south of the epicenter.
The quake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It occurred in the region of Myanmar's borders with Thailand and Laos. At least 10 people have been killed in a landslide and building collapse in northeast Myanmar, following the earthquake.
Thai media are reporting that one woman was killed in the northern province of Chiang Rai, with some buildings reported to have collapsed. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says it was located too far inland to create a destructive wave.
More than 60 people have died in the magnitude-6.8 earthquake in Burma which struck near the Lao and Thai borders.
Myanmar has had a number of natural disasters over the past 3 years. In 2008 an estimated 100,000 people died from a cyclone and two years later a further 70,000 people were left homeless from another cyclone.

Waves from Japan quake will hit California coast after 8 a.m. March 11, 2011 | 1:27 am The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center has issued more details about the potential for small waves hitting the California coast due to the Japan earthquake.
A strong 6.3-magnitude Earthquakerocked the southern New Zealand city of Christchurch on Tuesday, seriously injuring people and damaging buildings throughout the city. Live video footage showed damaged buildings throughout the city center, with bricks and shattered concrete strewn across the pavement. Hundreds of dazed, screaming and crying residents wandered through the streets as sirens blared throughout the city.
CNN is reporting that the small town north of Little Rock has had almost as many earthquakes since late September as it has residents. For the record, Guy has 549 residents and since Sept. 20 the town has had 487 measurable earthquakes. Arkansas is no stranger to seismic activities. CNN quoted Scott Ausbrooks, the geohazards supervisor for the Geological Survey, saying that last year the state had 39 measurable quakes.
Now, I don’t want to go all James Inhofe on this, but I was a bit skeptical to think that manmade activity could cause earthquakes. But then I did a little research and found that drilling of disposal wells near Derby, Colo., caused several quakes in the 1960s. So, it appears this is possible. In fact, there are other investigations about this same thing happening in Trinidad, Colo., about ten years ago and then in north Texas where disposal wells were drilled near fault lines.
Tragically, disaster has targeted Indonesia as it's once again struck with a Tsunami (casues by an earthquake) AND Volcano! Over 300 reported dead. Hundreds are still missing after the 7.7 quake triggered a tsunami.
The tsunami struck the remote Mentawi islands off western Sumatra, where officials were only beginning to chart the scope of the devastation. At least 311 people died as the huge wave, triggered by an undersea earthquake, washed away wooden and bamboo homes, displacing more than 20,000 people.
Huge swaths of land were underwater and homes were torn apart by the 10-foot (3-meter) wave that hit Pagai Utara island in the Indian Ocean south of Sumatra.

About 800 miles (1,300 kilometers) to the east in central Java, the Mount Merapi volcano was mostly quiet but still a threat after Tuesday's eruption that sent searing ash clouds into the air, killing at least 30 people and injuring 17. Among the dead was a revered elder who had refused to leave his ceremonial post as caretaker of the mountain's spirits.
