3.8 is a fair sized Earthquake. It happened in a small cluster of 3 quakes in San Francisco. Across the state, another 3.0 happened simultaneously. They say they felt it, but no damage was reported.
***The quake hit at 2:57 p.m. and was centered about 2 miles southeast of Pacifica, at a depth of 8 1/2 miles, said Paul Laustsen, a public affairs specialist for the agency. There were no immediate reports of damage.
"This is what we consider a weak to light amount of shaking," he said. "We wouldn't normally expect damage from this type of quake."
The earthquake type - strike-slip, meaning two plates move past each other - is "very characteristic" of the San Andreas Fault that runs through the Peninsula, Laustsen said.***
