Wyclef Jean Shot In Haiti, Released From Hospital

A spokesman for Wyclef Jean says the hip-hop star has been released from a hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound to his hand.

Joe Mignon, senior program director for Jean's Yele Foundation, says Jean was shot in the hand after 11 p.m. local time Saturday in the city of Delmas, just outside Port-au-Prince.

Jean's brother, Samuel, confirmed the musician was shot. Neither he nor Mignon had additional details.

The shooting comes on the eve of presidential elections in Haiti. Jean is supporting fellow musician Michel Martelly.

A spokesman for the Haitian National Police could not be immediately reached for comment.

Syfy gives 'Being Human' another season of life

Syfy has picked up its freshman series "Being Human" for a second season, the cable channel announced Thursday (March 17).

The show has put up decent ratings over its first nine episodes, averaging 1.8 million viewers for first-run airings and drawing an audience that's 53 percent female -- making it the most heavily female-skewing scripted series in the channel's history.

"'Being Human' has proven to be a winner for Syfy on all fronts," says Mark Stern, head of original programming for Syfy. "Using the original format as inspiration, showrunners/writers Jeremy Carver and Anna Fricke -- along with a superlative team of writers, cast, and production -- have created an amazing, compelling series in its own right."

The show, based on a British series of the same name, stars Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath and Sam Huntington as, respectively, a vampire, a ghost and a werewolf who share a Boston apartment and try to blend in with the mortals around them. Mark Pellegrino ("Lost," "Supernatural") also stars as Witwer's "mentor."

Syfy Renews 'Being Human' For Season 2

Syfy has renewed promising freshman drama series Being Human for a second season. In its January 17 debut, Being Human, an adaptation of the British series, averaged 2 million viewers to become Syfy's most watched new scripted series winter premiere since Battlestar Galactica in 2005. The series, produced by Zodiak USA and Muse Entertainment, has solidified its status as Syfy’s most successful winter scripted series launch in 6 years with a season-to-date average of 1.8 million viewers. It is also the channel's most female-skewing series ever, with women comprising 53% of its audience. “Being Human has proven to be a winner for Syfy on all fronts,” said Syfy's president of original content Mark Stern. “Using the original format as inspiration, showrunners/writers Jeremy Carver and Anna Fricke – along with a superlative team of writers, cast, and production – have created an amazing, compelling series in its own right," said  We can't wait to watch Aidan, Josh and Sally continue their struggle to be human in the second season!”

Being Human stars Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath, Sam Huntington and Mark Pellegrino as three supernatural roommates – vampire Aidan (Witwer), ghost Sally (Rath) and werewolf Josh (Huntington) – who share their secrets and a Boston brownstone. It is based on the praised British series, Being Human, created by Toby Whithouse and produced by Touchpaper Television, part of Zodiak Media Group. Carver, Fricke and Whithouse are executive producing with Michael Prupas and Rob Pursey. Being Human marks the first scripted hit for Zodiak USA, which is also behind ABC's new unscripted series Secret Millionaire.

Familiar sight: Gonzaga beats a higher seed

DENVER - That "11" on the bracket is only a number. The name that goes with it — "Gonzaga" — means a whole lot more.

The Bulldogs have become too good to be considered an underdog anymore, even if the seeding may say so.

Marquise Carter scored a career-high 24 points, lifting Gonzaga to an 86-71 victory over sixth-seeded St. John's on Thursday night to cap a stellar day for the double-digit seeds at the Pepsi Center in the NCAA tournament.

LCA or Swaybar

While torquing the lugs tonight after a pad/rotor/calliper pin and boot change, I noticed that the front wheels would move a bit while torquing.

The car was on the ground and the e-brake was set. I noticed that the wheel looked like it was actually moving forward and backwards when I would grab it and try to rotate it.

I had my fiancé attempt to roll the wheel forward and back while I got under to take a look(e-brake was still on, rear wheels were chocked car was in park).

I found that the bushing/nut where the sway bar ties into the LCA is moving about an 1/8 of an inch. This can be seen in the video below. This was also causing the entire strut assembly to move forward and backwards. I actually did the(and usually do this any time I'm jacking the car up) hands on 12 and 6 and then 3 and 9 shake test to check the ball joint and tie rod ends before I started the brakes, and all seemed fine. I also shoved a pry bar under the tire to check for movement which turned up OK.

My questions:
Is the car safe to drive or am I just probably cupping the tires and getting some slop in the steering wheel.
It does drive fine with no noticeable noises.

What to Do About the GOP's Planned Parenthood Dissidents

Seven House Republicans who broke from their party to support continued funding for Planned Parenthood are being lauded as heroes by the venerable family-planning organization—even as conservative activists are raising the specter of possible primary challenges if they continue to stray.
From Top to Bottom: Representatives Judy Biggert (IL), Robert Dold (IL), and Mary Bono Mack (CA). (Photos by AP Photo, 3; Getty Images, 1)
The defining vote was on the Pence Amendment, named after its sponsor, Republican Mike Pence of Indiana, which would cut off federal funding to Planned Parenthood not only for family planning but for basic cancer screening and health care services for poor and low-income women. The seven dissenters are Robert Dold and Judy Biggert of Illinois, Richard Hanna of New York, Mary Bono Mack of California, Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania, Rodney Frelinghuysen of New Jersey, and Charles Bass of New Hampshire.
They are not keen on advertising their stance, however; none would agree to interviews with The Daily Beast.
Only two freshmen are among the seven. One of them, Dold, surprised advocates on both sides of the debate when he not only cast his vote but rose to speak on the House floor in support of Planned Parenthood.
“The elimination of family planning dollars would deny access to preventative care for millions of women each year,” he said, citing conversations with his sister, an obstetrician/gynecologist, and other doctors about the importance of encouraging access to basic preventative care. Dold said 5 million individuals are seen each year through funding provided by Title X, created during the Nixon administration, and for every dollar invested in family planning approximately $3.74 is saved in Medicaid-related costs.
Dold, 41, is a pro-choice Republican representing the fiscally conservative and socially moderate northern suburbs of Chicago, the seat previously held by Mark Kirk, newly elected senator from Illinois.
The two women supporting Planned Parenthood, Biggert and Mack, are longtime backers of limited abortion rights. Mack, the only Republican woman in the California delegation, provided me with this statement: “The Pence Amendment cuts off federal funding to Planned Parenthood for all services—not just abortions. I believe that is a big mistake and represents a threat to the health of tens of thousands of American women. Breast cancer screenings, pelvic exams, HPV tests and scores of other vitally important health care services—services that save lives—would be unfairly impacted.”

The Department of Kinesiology Helps Others Make Strides

Have you ever wondered how somebody figured out that you have to bend your knees when you shoot a basketball? Or that the fastest way to get into a pool is head first? These are just a few of the many athletic phenomena that have been discovered because of Kinesiology. The students in the Department of Kinesiology at Auburn University are doing their part to make advancements in athletics through research of human movement.Jay Patel is a second year PhD student in the Biomechanics Department of Kinesiology. After completing his undergraduate degree in biomedical sciences and masters in exercise science, both at Auburn, he decided to continue his education here because of his love for the program and faculty.
“The faculty here are very helpful and let us follow our own research line,” said Patel. “Anytime we have a question or need them for any reason they are here to help out even if it’s not directly related to their field”
After receiving his PhD, Patel would like to obtain certification to be a strength and conditioning coach as well as continue to do research and teach. He currently teaches biomechanics and applied anatomy to undergraduates.
“The more I teach the more I learn at the same time,” said Patel.
Patel is also working with Dr. Wendi Weimar on a fitness shoe which is currently in product development. Patel says that the main claim of current fitness shoes is all about toning, but he wanted to check it out and question it.

“A body will adapt to a shoe and so it won’t be able to do its job anymore,” said Patel. “Our shoe changes it up.”

Students in the Kinesiology department get the chance to work with many of the athletic teams on campus. They are currently doing a flip turn study on the forces of swimmers as well as educating the softball coach on lateral forces when hitting. They also get to work with Olympians and do balance studies with injured athletes.

Degrees in Kinesiology apply to a range of professions including physical therapy, occupational therapy, physical education, coaching, strength and conditioning specialist and physician. The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in exercise science, health promotion, and physical education/teacher education.

Kinesiology M.Ed. graduate featured in Chronicle article

Justine Chatterton, Kinesiology M.Ed. (2009) and doctoral student in Counseling Psychology at the University of North Texas, was featured in an article titled, "Do Male Athletes Have Body-Image Problems?" published in the March 3 Chronicle of Higher Education. Justine writes to her former adviser, Dr. Nicole LaVoi, associate director of the Tucker Center: "I thought I would share a recent article about my research.... The Tucker Center makes an appearance! The article reminded me to thank you for all that you taught me about thinking critically and learning more about gender roles and sport. Thanks for everything.

Are You Happy With Bachelor Brad's Final Pick

What's the Bachelor Season 15 Finale Song?

Happy Pi Day, math lovers

It's 3.14, and that means it's time for the official Pi Day celebrations to begin.

Get out your favorite circular objects, people, it’s Pi Day 2011!

As the math and science enthusiasts among us already know, March 14 (i.e. 3/14) is official Pi Day — a day to celebrate the number Pi, identified by the Greek letter p, which is used to calculate the circumference of a circle.

Pi is most often shortened to 3.14. But because the number is both irrational and transcendental, it “will continue indefinitely without repeating,” as the official Pi Day website, PiDay.org, kindly explains.

With the use of handy computers, Pi has now been calculated out to over 1 trillion digits past the decimal. It is Pi’s mysterious nature — the fact that it can never be entirely known — that has helped generate the adoration for it held by the mathematically inclined.

The famous symbol for Pi, p, was first used by Welsh mathematician William Jones in his work Synopsis Palmariorum Matheseos, which was published in 1706. It wasn’t until its adoption by Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler in 1737, however, that the Pi symbol gained widespread popularity.

So, what is the purpose of Pi Day?

“It’s primarily a chance to have fun with the topic of math and science,” David Blater, author of The Joy of Pi, tells Time.com‘s NewsFeed blog. “And while it celebrates Pi officially, it’s more of an excuse to get excited and show the fun side of math and science.”

The first Pi Day was celebrated in 1989 at the San Francisco Exploratorium, which remains one of Pi Day’s primary promoters. Today, Pi Day celebrations take place in countless grade schools across the country.

While a wide variety of Pi Day celebrations are acceptable, some of the most popular include circle-measuring parties, watching the movie Pi, Pi recitation contests (to see who can accurately recall the most digits) and, of course, eating actual pie!

Jewel Accident

Jewel was in a very scary accident Friday when a volunteer fire truck smashed into the passenger side of her SUV, and, luckily, she and her unborn baby emerged unharmed from the scene. The singer is now out of the hospital -- she was taken just to get checked out -- and credits her Cadillac SUV for saving her life.

Jewel (Bauer Griffin)
"[One] thing I do know is my car saved my & my baby's life," she tweeted (via People.com). "Definitely going 2 get another Cadillac SRX! It absorbed all the damage & kept me safe!"

She's now back at her Texas home, where she'll be spending a lot of time resting now. "Dr said no working out," she also wrote, "so I'm just going to take it easy this weekend. Just a little sore and banged up – but feeling so blessed this morning."

Zip Codes Zip Codes

We know stars reside all over the country, but where are the most expensive places that they live?

Los Angeles has always been home to some of the world’s most expensive real estate. But forget Beverly Hills, 90210: The new hot spot for multimillion-dollar mansions is Duarte, 91008. This small suburb northeast of downtown Los Angeles boasts a median cost for a house a whopping $4.2 million making it the most expensive housing market in the country. It also ranks No. 1 on Forbes’ annual ranking of America’s Most Expensive ZIP Codes.

Of course everybody knows living in Los Angeles is expensive, and Mauricio Umansky, a broker at Hilton & Hyland, says: “If you are a working actor you may choose to live in Mulholland Estates or Beverly Park (both in 90210), because you’re closer to the studios and the West Hollywood nightlife…Older actors tend to like Malibu because it’s discreet, you have serenity and privacy and security.”

But get out of the Hollywood scene and you’ll find Sean Penn and wife Robin Wright-Penn and their children live in Ross, Calif. (94957), a San Francisco suburb. The median home sale price is over a million dollars.

You can find Oprah Winfrey, Rob Lowe and Tom Cruise in  Montecito (93108); the actors all own homes there. Montecito is a section of Santa Barbara, on California’s central coast. Median house prices there are about $2 million.

Then we have Alpine, N.J. (07620), home to many hip hop and rap celebrities such as Sean “Diddy” Combs, Fabolous and Lil’ Kim. The median price of a home, ahem, mansion here is around $3.4 million.

For those stars who demand privacy, Star Island, a man-made key off the coast of Miami, is called home. Believe it or not, paparazzi have been known to rent out jet skis to catch a glimpse and photos of celebrities residing in 33139. Shaquille O’Neal, singer Gloria Estefan and talk-show host Rosie O’Donnell, all call Star Island home, and get to enjoy the close proximity to Miami’s nightlife without living in the craziness of the city.

Facing Investigation for Bigamy

The Browns knew they were taking a risk when they agreed to have their lives filmed and aired on national television. But they told themselves at the time that it was worth the risk to their families and lifestyle to raise awareness, and possibly tolerance to their polygamist lifestyle as 'Sister Wives' (Sun., 9PM on TLC).

After a successful first season in 2010, what they feared the most is on the brink of occurring. Local police have launched an investigation into their polygamist family and is seeking charges of bigamy. It's up to the prosecuting attorney's office now whether the case will move forward.

"It scares me to death the possibility of being taken away from my family," Meri Brown said. "Or to have Kody taken away from us, you know and the kids needing to be split up." Husband Kody could face up to 20 years in prison, with each wife facing up to five years.

So do they regret opening up their lives like they have to this kind of scrutiny? "for the chance that this might change for us in the future, I would choose this route again for us,"Meri concluded. The other wives agreed.

FUKUSHIMA ON TOP NUCLEAR ALERT, JALEN ROSE, CHINAWOOD VIA HOLLYWOOD NEWS

NUCLEAR experts have warned that pumping sea water to cool an earthquake-hit Japanese nuclear reactor was an “act of desperation” that may foreshadow a Chernobyl-like disaster.

This report totally aggregated from CNN News – that’s Huffingtonese in the US for shared with a link back to CNN- [10:31 p.m. ET, 11:31 a.m. Tokyo] Japan’s nuclear safety and industrial agency reported sounds of an explosion at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant’s No. 3 reactor, according to Japanese public broadcaster NHK. White smoke could be seen rising from the facility at 11 a.m. Monday. Workers have been flooding this reactor and the plant’s No. 1 reactor with seawater to cool them after the earthquake and tsunami damaged the reactors’ cooling systems.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said a day earlier that accumulating hydrogen gas “may potentially cause an explosion” in the building housing the No. 3 reactor at the Daiichi plant. A similar scenario played out Saturday, when a blast caused by hydrogen buildup blew the roof off a concrete building housing the plant’s No. 1 reactor. The reactor and its containment system were not damaged in the explosion at the No. 1 reactor.

Brad Womack: Season 15 Finale Is "One of the Most Romantic" Ever

After "The Women Tell All," Bachelor Brad Womack talked to On The Red Carpet about the Season 15 finale and the one bachelorette in particular he wanted to talk to during the WTA.

That lucky lady? "Michelle. And only because the poor girl's just been beat up by everybody and I think it's unfair. [...] I wanted people to know I know the real Michelle, not the edited Michelle." See! Even Brad admits Michelle Money got an unfair edit.

Brad says of the upcoming finale: "I can humbly say that I think the finale is one of the most romantic I've ever seen — and I'm a fan of the show, I was before. I think it ends really well."

But he really just wants the secret to be out so he can do normal things, like take his Chosen One out for a cup of coffee. "I'm starting to wonder if there is a relationship, I haven't seen her for so long," he jokes. Still, it’s kind of fun to sneak around on the sly...

Ke$ha Gets Hot and Heavy with Scottish Dancer

Kesha was spotted kissing Scottish dance music artist Calvin Harris at a Rihanna concert in Melbourne on Tuesday night.

The pair were so into each other that they even left together before the end of the performance.

A source told the Melbourne Herald Sun newspaper: “They were getting right into it. They were practically fornicating.”

Kesha was already in Australia and when she discovered Calvin was in the country as the support act for Rihanna she decided to fly to Melbourne so she could meet up with singer.

Another source told The Sun newspaper: “They were all over each other and didn’t care who was watching. Kesha is a bit of an animal but Calvin reckons he can handle her.”

Calvin, 27, took to Twitter on the night they hung out, revealing to his fans he’d had a “fun night.”

He tweeted: “2nd Melbourne show with Rihanna went great! Lots of people in town for Future festival too so was a fun night!”

Kesha, 24, has previously revealed she learned about sex at a young age, and admits her mother took an unusual approach to sex education.

She said: “I knew everything about sex before I was even seven. My mom left me at home when I was  14 with a credit card, and a box of condoms and the keys to the car and said, 'Don't get pregnant and don't drink and drive.’ I had to be responsible for myself.”
