Hollywood star Angelina Jolie wins back permit for Bosnian film

Angelina Jolie has been given back a permit to film in Bosnia that was briefly withdrawn because of rumors that her movie featured a rape victim who falls in love with her assailant, her producer said Monday.

Permission to film had been withdrawn last week, with the government citing incomplete paperwork
.
Jolie was given back the permit for her first project as a director after the country's culture minster was given the script in an attempt to assure him the rumors were false, said Edin Sarkic, Jolie's Bosnian producer. The minister did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
"It's a big thing for Bosnia that such a mega, mega star is coming to Sarajevo."

The Oscar-winning actress is shooting the film in Budapest. Her production company said it was a love story between a Serbian man and a Bosnian Muslim woman who meet on the eve of the Bosnian 1992-95 war, which killed 100,000 people.

The Association of Women Victims of War protested Jolie's production after hearing rumors that the film's main characters — a Bosnian woman and a Serb man — were a rape victim and rapist.
Culture minister Gavrilo Grahovac pulled the filming permit Wednesday.

Sarkic said that the newly restored permit will allow Jolie and her crew to start filming in Sarajevo in November. They are currently filming in Hungary. He said the whole controversy was "unnecessary".

"There are many twists in the plot that address the sensitive nature of the relationship between the main characters and that will be revealed once the film is released," she said last week. "My hope is that people will hold judgment until they have seen the film."

Actress Christina Hendricks Hits Back Over 'big girl' Critic

Christina Hendricks' voluptuous, size 14 body may not be typical in Hollywood wore a peach coloured strapless gown on the red carpet at the Golden Globes in January.

The 35-year-old actress has now hit back. In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, she said: "To say something like that and put it next to a distorted picture discredits you entirely. And it hurt my feelings. I thought that dress was stunning.
"I had just gotten back from my honeymoon and I felt beautiful in those pictures. I was smiling and beaming, and I felt like a goddess.

"It's a celebration, and I'm here because the show I work on is being recognised as excellent work, and you're going to tell everyone in the world that I was wearing a - dress? Let me go to a party and wear my pretty dress!"
Last month she revealed how she had struggled to find a designer who would loan her a dress for the Emmy Awards because all the outfits were "size zero or a size two." In July she was hailed as an "absolutely fabulous" physical role model for girls by Lynne Featherstone, the UK's Equalities Minister.

Jennifer Aniston : Jennifer Aniston wins order against duct tape stalker

Jennifer Aniston was granted a restraining order Tuesday against a stalker, described by her lawyers as "violent" and "delusional," who was arrested outside her Hollywood Hills home last week.

Jason R. Peyton, 24, was detained last week after he spent days trying to find Aniston, 41, on Sunset Boulevard. On him: A sharp object, duct tape and love notes to the actress.
"Mr. Peyton has aggressively sought to have personal contact with me and integrate himself into my life," she said in a signed court declaration.
He is now required to stay away from the home, work and car of the actress. The court documents describe Peyton as “obsessed” and “delusional.” A hearing will be held on August 9, but until then, the Los Angeles police have placed Peyton on psychiatric hold against his will. He has previously been accused of stalking and ignored court orders that mandate he stay on anti-psychotic medications.
Aniston's lawyers described Peyton as "an obsessed, mentally ill and delusional stalker - with a history of violence and criminal stalking - who drove cross-country in his delusional 'mission' to locate and marry (Aniston), with whom he believes he is in a relationship."
Peyton also believes he is related to numerous celebrities including Oprah, Jay-Z, Donald Trump, Courteney Cox, Nelson Mandela and Jennifer Lopez, according to the documents.

Pop star Jennifer Lopez cancels north Cyprus show

Singer Jennifer Lopez has put the kibosh on a show in the Turkish-controlled north of Cyprus. The performance came under fire from Greek Cypriots, who started an online campaign calling for the gig to be canceled.
"Jennifer Lopez would never knowingly support any state, country, institution or regime that was associated with any form of human rights abuse," a statement on Lopez's website said.
"After a full review of the relevant circumstances in Cyprus, it was the decision of her advisors to withdraw from the appearance. This was a team decision that reflects our sensitivity to the political realities of the region."

Lopez, her husband singer Marc Anthony and their two children were due to stay at the Cratos Premium Hotel, located in a region where thousands of Greek Cypriots were displaced from in 1974. She was booked to perform there on July 24.
The gig, scheduled for J.Lo's 41st birthday, reportedly would've come with a $3-million paycheck. Apparently, as Beyoncé may have learned after playing a little New Year's Eve gig in St. Barth's for a son of Moammar Kadafi, not every multimillion-dollar paycheck is worth it the hassle.

The third Twilight flick, "Eclipse," hits theaters on Wednesday. The film is popular enough to be review-proof, but that hasn't stopped the nation's critics from chiming in with their thoughts on whether "Eclipse" is worth squealing over.
Most critics can't help comparing "Eclipse" to the saga's first two flicks, "Twilight" (2008) and "New Moon" (2009). The Hollywood Reporter's Kirk Honeycutt was impressed with the third film, writing, "the teen vampire series finally hits its stride with an entertaining mix of romance and action fantasy."

Einglish Actress Emma Watson Stars in Music Video Boyfriend,George Craig

Emma Watson has lent her acting talents and star power to her recent constant companion and "friend" : model and musician George Craig.

Emma Watson is best known for playing the character of Hermione Granger in the popular Harry Potter film franchise. She has found herself in yet another starring role, but this time it is in a music video for her boyfriend’s One Night Only band. The 20-year-old actress’ boyfriend, rock musician George Craig, asked her to star in his band’s music video for “Say You Don’t Want It,” and she gladly obliged.
In a BBC1 interview with the pair, Watson gamely responded to the question of whether she and Craig would be taking on a couple-nickname like "Brangelina" or "Speidi." She said she wouldn't object to "Wataig," but Craig demurred. "Just call us by our real names," he said. "That'd be fine!"
However, it is eventually revealed that Craig and Watson are dogs, which they learn when they look at their reflection in the mirror. Watson addressed her contribution to One Night Only’s video, saying, “It’s kind of an ode to Lady and the Tramp, George is Tramp and I’m Lady. The actress complimented her boyfriend’s musical ability during an interview with the U.K.’s Radio 1, saying, “I couldn’t believe [how good the music was]. I’m a big fan. Everything he did was amazing.”

Actress Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green get married

Megan Fox's publicist confirmed Tuesday the actress married her longtime beau, actor Brian Austin Green, in Hawaii during the weekend.

The 24-year-old sex symbol wed her longtime boyfriend, Brian Austin Green, 36, in Hawaii June 24, according to their reps. Green's 8-year-old son, Kassius, attended the small, private ceremony held at the Four Seasons hotel on Hawaii's Big Island.
It is the first marriage for both Green and Fox, who recently go re-engaged at the same hotel on June 1. Though some reports said they had called off their first engagement four years ago, Fox told reporters earlier this month that they'd been engaged this whole time. She also, however, swore that she and Green wouldn't get married for "years."
The couple, who have tattoos of each other's names and share custody of a potbellied pig, dogs, two cats, two birds and a squirrel, first met in 2004 on the set of "Hope & Faith" and have dated on and off ever since. Fox has been vocal about her preference for older men. "Boys in their 20s are a waste of time," she explained to Elle. "They have nothing to offer conversationally. They're immature. I feel like I have a better shot with someone in his 30s."

Sandra Bullock : Actress Sandra Bullock's divorce from Jesse James is final

Sandra Bullock and love rat Jesse James have finalised their divorce, marking the end of their five year marriage.
The 45-year-old actress first filed for divorce in April, stating that the couple's nearly five-year marriage had become "insupportable" following reports of infidelity by James.

The reason for the split was citied as a 'discord or conflict of personalities' as the official divorce settlement allows Bullock to complete the adopting of her son Louis as a single parent.
Sandra adopted the child from New Orleans with Jesse before he was outed as a cheat for starting an 11 month affair with heavily tattooed model Michelle 'Bombshell' McGee.
Jesse recently broke his silence on their split claiming: "There is only one person to blame for this whole situation, and that is me. It's because of my poor judgment that I deserve everything bad that is coming my way."

U.S singer Lady Gaga Debuts New Song

Lady GaGa debuted a new song called You And I at Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara ball last week.
"This is a brand-new record that no one's ever heard before ... ever," she said while seated at one of her signature deconstructed pianos and wearing a bedazzled black bra and panties with black boots. "And I've never, ever played it live, ever."

On her Twitter, she described "You and I" as a "new song ... written in NY on the piano I grew up on."
She wasn't kidding about the song having a rock edge, as the tune eschewed most of her dance flavor, right down to a rollicking barrelhouse piano solo, during which she stood up on the piano bench and bashed out some John-worthy runs on the black and whites. She finished the tune crouched on the bench, wailing, "You and I," while pumping her fist, before giving it a big finish that included kicking a heel up on the keyboard and lying across the piano bench with her head on the ground.

Gaga also took the stage in a wheelchair with her chest covered in fake blood and accompanied by an oiled-up male dancer for a run through "Alejandro," and she performed her ballad "Speechless." During the latter, John came out and joined her for a dueling-pianos showdown, trading off verses on the tune dedicated to Gaga's dad and then reprising their Grammys duet with a snippet of his hit "Your Song," during which he improvised the line, "I hope you don't mind that I wrote down in words/ How wonderful life is with Gaga in the world."

Avatar: 'Avatar' leads Oscar discussions online

Hollywood-With the Academy Awards just days away, fans online are increasingly discussing the nominees for best picture, a category that has expanded to include 10 films this year, along with the actors and actresses nominated in a lead role, according to analysis undertaken by The Nielsen Company using Nielsen Online BuzzMetrics.

Mirroring its global box office success, Avatar dominates online discussion of films in the movie category, grabbing more than a quarter of all buzz globally surrounding the 10 Oscar-nominated films.

In India too Avatar is the most discussed movie online and has a majority share of buzz, followed by Up in the Air which is the second most discussed movie in India.

"It is not surprising to see discussions revolve around the movie Avatar so much, as it was one of the most awaited movies of the year 2009 and the fact that it came from the James Cameron stable, who had previously wowed everyone with Titanic, the wait was only justified. On the other hand following AR Rahman's double Oscars for his music in the film Slumdog Millionaire last year, the buzz online in India is quite palpable," said Karthik Nagarajan, Associate Director - Nielsen Online, The Nielsen Company.

In the main acting categories, Golden Globe winners Jeff Bridges (for Crazy Heart) and Sandra Bullock (for The Blind Side) take the global buzz lead against their competition, with each capturing more than a quarter of buzz globally.

Shah Rukh Khan:"My Name is Khan is a flawless work" - Subhash K Jha

Mumbai-He repairs almost anything, including irreparably damaged relationships. But this film about damaged lives needs no repairing. My Name Is Khan is a flawless work, as perfect in content, tone and treatment as any film can get. The ‘message’ of humanism doesn’t comes across in long pedantic speeches.

The film’s longest monologue has our damaged but exceptionally coherent hero Rizwan telling a congregation of Black American church-goers about his dead son.

And if that moment moves us to tears it’s because the emotions are neither manipulative nor flamboyant. It isn’t because Rizwan’s son Sameer perished in a racial attack. It isn’t even because Shah Rukh Khan delivers his life’s best performance in that moment of reckoning. Rizwan’s heartfelt rhetorics are not about changing the world with words. Born with a physical disability this is a man on the move. And boy, does he move!

In what is possibly the most touching testament on film to the spirit of world peace and humanism (lofty ideals to achieve in the massy-masala format but see how pitch-perfect Johar gets it), Rizwan takes off on a picaresque journey to meet the US President with a message that initially strikes us as being too naïve for reiteration.

But look closer. Some of life’s basic values have been lost in recent times. Writer Shibani Bathija’s seamless screenplay, arguably the best piece of writing since Rakeysh Mehra’s Rang De Basanti, recovers that long-lost message of loving your fellow human being unconditionally without getting trite around the edges.

Sex and politics have nothing to do with it. It’s okay to hug your neighbour.

First and foremost, My Name Is Khan is a wonderful story told with a flair and flourish that leave a lingering impact on the viewer. Almost every frame is composed with a mix of mind and heart creating an irresistible progression of moments so tender and forcible we’re simply swept away in the tides of the tale about a very special man who undertakes a very special journey.

My Name Is Khan opens with Rizwan boarding an American flight being frisked after a suspicious co-passenger hears him chanting religious passages. Before we begin to suspect this to be one more film on the persecution of the innocent Muslim, Karan Johar, doing a smart and slick spin away from his trademark content and style, takes his hero on a journey that crosses several emotional, political and geographical borders before stopping with breathless integrity to say, life doesn’t go on…it changes colours and textures with the moral values that the individual chooses to confer on the life given to him.

Superbly scripted by Bathija with pithy outstanding dialogues by Niranjan Iyenger, the film is edited by Deepa Bhatia with just that much amount of time allotted to the character’s and their thought processes to make them appear warm humane and tangible without over-punctuating their presence.

To take one example, when Rizwan's brother (Jimmy Shergil, making the best of his brief but comprehensive role) quietly tells his lovely wife (Sonia Jehan) to not wear her veil to work in the US because God would understand, the scene with beautiful economy conveys the couple’s mutual empathy and determination to override the hatred outside their home.

Karan Johar, always a master of overstatement, for once holds back. The silences in My Name Is Khan often speak far more eloquently than the spoken words. The relationships that the inarticulate Rizwan forms during the course of his life from child to husband to father to a political individual are contoured with a luminous lack of laboriousness. Whether it’s young Rizwan (played sensitively by Tanay Cheda) and his mother (Zarina Wahab, memorable in her brief appearance) or much later, Rizwan and his step-son (brilliant young discovery Yuvaan Makar), the traditional relationships are done-up in striking but subtle shades. We look at every moment in the film (even the clumsily-done flood sequences) as special because they are part of vision that goes far beyond the real of hop-in-hop-out entertainment.

The director swerves out of his comfort zone without the sound of screechy wheels. Karan Johar’s unconventional take on modern marital mores in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna faltered due to over-statement. In Khan, he doesn’t try hard. The characters and their predicament, as America gets increasingly suspicious and hostile about the Muslim presence, are portrayed with a lightness of touch that lights up almost every sequence.

Then there is Kajol to provide the kind of natural light to every frame that no amount of artificial light can supplement. As Rizwan’s Hindu wife Mandira, with a smart intelligent son, she has a distinctly secondary role to Shah Rukh Khan. She leaves a lasting impact as a divorcee and later an angry wife and grieving mother, as only Kajol can.

The scenes of courtship between Mandira and Rizwan work so beautifully because of the exceptional chemistry between the two actors. More than a strong political statement and moving message of peace My Name Is A Khan is a love story of a man who can’t express his love through words, only deeds. This is a film that Frank Capra would’ve made if he had lived long enough to see 9/11 happen.

The narration is carpeted with virtues, both invisible and visible. Ravi K Chandran’s cinematography captures the incandescent soul of the pure-hearted protagonist as effectively as the stubbornly unbroken spirit of unknown passersby on the streets of America.

Rizwan, we are told, is petrified of the yellow colour. The offending colour recurs with just a hint of insistence. Rizwan wears shocking pink because he hears Mandira’s buddy (Navneet Nishan) say it suits her. He proposes marriage and sex (in that order) at the most inopportune moments. He suggests Mandira have her dinner when she’s traumatized by grief. He wears his dead son’s shoes as he takes off to meet the President. Rizwan moves by his clock. But his tale is timeless.

Shah Rukh Khan doesn’t PLAY Rizwan. He becomes one with the character’s subconscious, portraying the man and his spirit with strokes of an invisible paintbrush until what we see is what we cannot forget. Undoubtedly this is Shah Rukh’s best performance ever.

This is no ordinary hero. And My Name Is Khan is no ordinary film. Long after the wary-of-physical-touch, Rizwan has finally shaken hands with President Obama, long after the heat and dust of racial and communal hatred has settled down the core of humanism that the film secretes stays with you.

Yes, we finally know what they mean by a feelgood film.
