Shilpa ends war with Preity

Stories of the two IPL queens battling it out on the playing field and on television
came to a sudden turning point this week when Shilpa Shetty extended an olive branch to her supposed rival in the IPL Preity Zinta.

Shilpa and Raj Kundra are hosting a grand party to celebrate their entry into the IPL on March 10 at the Grand Hyatt. And Preity is invited.

Says Shilpa, "I really want these unsavoury rumours about our rivalry to end. On an impulse I sent a sms to Preity inviting her for the party that Raj and I are hosting."

Shilpa was pleasantly surprised when Preity replied back. "She said she'd love to come. But can't because she'd be out of town. I think that just about takes care of that. I'm sure we'll have other occasions to interact. For now it's enough that she accepted my invitation."

Shilpa thinks these rivalry stories are unnecessary. "We're both well brought-up girls. We were even together in the Bachchans' world tour. And we got along fine. We don't need to be seen as these warring women at all, please."

About the party on the 10th Shilpa says, "It's been a while since Raj and I had friends share in our happiness. The IPL deal is a good occasion to have a get-together. We're inviting all our friends."

Shilpa Shetty can travel abroad

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty can now travel abroad. The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the ‘look out’ notice issued against her by the Superintendent of Police, Mundawar (Alwar) in Rajasthan in connection with the controversial kiss by Hollywood actor Richard Gere during an AIIDS awareness function in the capital.

A bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan stayed the ‘look out notice’ after her counsel Anand Grover submitted that it has become difficult for her to go abroad for her assignments as the notice directed the airport and police authorities to apprehend and restrain her from leaving India.

The order comes as a major reprieve for the actress of Big Brother fame, who frequently travels abroad for her professional assignments.

The April 15 kissing incident during an AIDS awareness programme at the Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar here had sparked off strong protests in several cities.

In fact, a Rajasthan court had issued a warrant against Shilpa and Richard and a court in Ghaziabad had summoned both of them on criminal complaints filed against them for alleged obscenity and indecent public behaviour.

The apex court on May 15 stayed the criminal proceedings in all these cases. Grover contended that the notice has become illegal and infructuous in view of the stay order.

The court has already issued notices to various complainants on her petition seeking transfer of all the cases related to the controversy to Mumbai.

Seeking quashing of criminal cases registered against her in various courts at Jaipur, Ghaziabad and Mundawar (Alwar), Shetty claimed that wrong projection of the incident in the public by the media resulted in the filing of private criminal complaints.

Shilpa, a resident of Mumbai, requested the apex court to transfer all the cases to the court of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in the western metropolis.

Shilpa is the next face of Marks & Spencer!

Celebrity Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty has reportedly been chosen as the new face of Marks & Spencer, the largest clothing retailer in the UK.

The Indian actress, who gained public admiration after she reacted wisely to the racial abuse in the Channel 4 hit show, attended shoot sessions on March 20.

A source said that the actress spent the entire day trying on clothes, and that Shilpa is perfect for the campaign, for she is stunning and the British crowd love her.

“Shilpa spent the day at a shoot; she spent the morning having lots of clothes fitted on her so that they look amazing for the advertising campaigns. She is perfect for the role. She is gorgeous and has a great personality but, above all, the British public love her,” the Daily Mail quoted a source, as saying.

The contract is said to be close to 150,000 pounds, and if the campaign is a success then Shilpa maybe roped in again for another set of promotional programmes.

The source said that the actress is happy that she was on the reality show that fetched her lot of exposure in Britain.

"Shilpa is delighted, she went into the Big Brother house to get herself some exposure in Britain, so she couldn't have asked for things to have turned out better for her," the source said.

The source added that though Shilpa is in talks with a number of producers for films, but being a face of M&S is an incredible deal for her.

"She is still talking to a number of film producers about acting roles, but to be the face of such a popular store is an amazing gig for her." the source said.

Shilpa joins a number of famous people such as Twiggy and Erin O' Connor, who were also a part of the retailing outlet's campaign.
