
Pacaya volcano is forecasted several more days of activity.
The volcano 1,552 meters high is located in Escuintla, 31.1 miles from the capital.
There are no records of a bang like the one on Thursday night so far, when it was declared a state of calamity for the departments of Escuintla and Guatemala.

At least 1,600 people have fled the eruption, some 30km (19 miles) south of the capital city.
The volcano covered parts of Guatemala City in ash, forcing the closure of the country's main international airport. The 20 megawatt Ormat power plant was temporarily shut down in order to safeguard equipment.
