Mom Blogger Spotlight: ‘Mommie and the City’

Ymm would like to acknowledge a Fellow Mom blogger and Young Mom in Motion, the creator of ‘Mommie and the City’. ‘Mommie and the City’ is a 32 year old wife and mother of three-a daughter 6, son 3 1/2 and 8month old baby girl. She resides in the San Francisco Bay area and is currently working in the commercial real estate business. Ymm-Karina had the pleasure of getting to know the mom behind the blog.

1.Why did you create 'mommie and the city'? I went back to work when I didn't want to, but at the same time was thankful I could help support my family. Blogging was cheaper than therapy and I really just needed a place to vent about my life. My life is far from terrible, but I needed a way to express my frustrations, emotions and even my accomplishments about the balance of work and home.

2.What do you expect your readers to take from 'Mommie and the City'? That moms are not alone in their struggle to balance a work and a home life; that they are not the only ones struggling with a breast pump or weight gain or even body image; that laughter, even at my expense, cleanses the soul.

3. What is your perspective on life as a mom?
That there is hope, laughter and joy in motherhood--especially amongst fellow moms. It is the hardest, best thing I've ever done in my life. It's crazy now, but I have no doubt that I will look back at some point and miss this "crazy."

4. Any mommie advice? Moms are moms whether they work or stay at home. We all need to stop being so judgy about this and realize that we're the same. Moms who work do not love their kids less than moms who stay home. I've done both and the one thing that has gotten me through my struggles is the support of other moms - even if it's just one other mom by your side. There is nothing worse than feeling like you're on your own.

5. Being a Mom in Motion, it can sometimes be difficult keeping up with the latest looks. How would you describe your personal style?
The first thing that comes to mind is practical. You won't see me at the park with designer heels on, but this doesn't mean I don't love great shoes or handbags. It just means I want what best fits the day's activities. One day I was at the park and I watched a little boy dump Cheeze-Its and grapes in his mom's purse. Right then and there, I knew my Marc Jacobs bag was not going to survive motherhood in one piece. If I'm going to work, it's simple black. If I'm home, it's cute flip flops and Capri’s. Just because your a mom and practical doesn't mean you have to look frumpy at any size or shape.
